ASG MODIFIES GOVERNING DOCUMENTS

Constitution
On January 10, 1997, members of ASG, the USC Today, and interested students met at the Pueblo West Best Western to look over the ASG Constitution. Over the years since it had last been looked at, there had been many changes made, and it was inconsistent with itself and other governing documents.
Major changes proposed to the entire Senate were the addition of a definition section for the terms that were confusing; the addition of the ASG Secretary as a member of the student government; the addition of an additional Senator to bring the total to 15; the requirement that constitutional amendments be signed by the ASG President to become effective; and the requirement that the members of the Executive Branch have and hold a 2.5 GPA.

Bylaws
On January 18th, members of ASG, interested students, and a representative from USC Today met to discuss changes to the Bylaws of ASG. Just like the Constitution, the Bylaws had been modified many times in the past.
Major changes proposed to the entire Senate were the addition of a definition section, the addition of a section about the ASG Secretary, the addition of a section concerning Summer Senate sessions, and procedures to follow if a member of ASG does not meet the minimum GPA requirements. Minor changes consisted of making confusing sections easier to understand.

New People
On January 23rd, the Senate selected two new members to fill vacancies. The new members are Sommer Bridge, representing the School of ASET, and Emily Martinez, representing the School of Science & Math.
On January 30th, President Kelly nominated Mellissa Allen for the position of Election Commissioner and Vicki Van Gelder to fill the vacant Justice position created by the graduation of Eddie Arceneaux. The Senate confirmed the appointments.
Please stop by ASG and welcome our new folks!

Upcoming Events
On February 22-25, members of ASG will be attending the Conference On Student Government Associations, held at Texas A & M University.
